Group Historical Swordsmanship Class Schedule - Spring/Summer 2010
Beginning I - Includes: Rapier and Two-Handed Sword - For students with or without previous Sport Fencing experience
6 one-hour classes
The Virginia Academy of Fencing is one of only a few schools in North America to offer systematic instruction in Rapier and the Two-Handed Sword, which are the roots of modern fencing. Students are introduced to the sword arts that were practiced on battlefields and dueling grounds of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The practice swords used in class are the shinai, made of bamboo, and the foil. By the end of the course, students will understand different styles of swordsmanship used throughout history.

Beginning II Historical Swordsmanship: Rapier, Two-Handed Sword
For Ages 9 and Up
This class offers an expanded study of Renaissance and Medieval swordfighting styles. New techniques are explored allowing students to engage in more independent sparring. The goal is to prepare students for the intermediate level where they may fence other students without close supervision. Students also are introduced to the Olympic Sport program.

**VAF will be closed in observance of Memorial Day May 29 May 31. Classes that fall on the closure are extended one week. |
