Description of Intermediate Fencing Programs
VAF has a variety of programs designed to meet the needs of different types of fencers. While classes provide the basis for continuing training, members also are encouraged to fence outside of class, especially taking advantage of our Supervised Free Fencing sessions.
Recreational Program - for those who enjoy the mental and physical challenge of fencing, making new friends, and setting personal goals.
Recreational/Electric Program - a more rigorous workout with the added component of competition with classmates. Students learn the techniques of fencing using electric scoring equipment. You may be interested in club or state competitions, and this program will prepare you for them. Your own basic electric equipment is required for class.
Competition Programs - a combination of group and private instruction, physical fitness workouts, and strategy and technical development sessions are all part of the training program.
- Competitive Foil Program Offered at both the Youth (9-13 yrs) and the Teen/Adult levels, this training is geared towards developing and preparing students to become active competitors and enabling them to advance to the Master Foil Program. Fencers entering this program are required to attend all classes and to begin or continue competing, both in local and in some national competitions. This program meets for 1½ hours twice a week.
- Master Foil Program and Master Sabre Program For all ages, the program includes 6 hours of instruction each week to ensure the development of successful competitive fencers, and, most importantly, champions. Fencers entering this program are required to attend all classes and to compete actively, in both local, and especially in national competitions. The program runs 2 hours, 3 days a week.
Stay on any of these levels for as long as you like, or use them as steps to the next level. You and your coach can plan a satisfying training program that will provide you with just the right amount of challenge and enjoyment.
