Please Welcome New Coach Coach Oleksii Ivanov

VAF is very pleased to announce the arrival of our new full time Coach Oleksii Ivanov!

Oleksii Ivanov

Coach Oleksii has 50+ years coaching experience in foil, epee, and saber, is a Decorated Coach of Ukraine and Master of Sport in USSR, the coach of numerous world and national champions and medalists, has had students recruited to a number of Ivy League Division I, II, and III schools, and was assistant Coach of the University of Pennsylvania.

Starting Monday, July 6, Coach Oleksii will be immediately available for summer camps, competitive fencing classes, and private lessons.

In order to give you a chance to meet the new coach, VAF will be hosting a meet and greet one hour Participatory Foil, Epee, and Saber Clinic with Coach Oleksii on Saturday, July 18, 2 pm 3pm, which will be free for all VAF members.

VA Time Travel - Bill Grandy on Armor

The TV show Virginia Time Travel invited Bill Grandy and Tim Hall back to be interviewed and perfrom some swordplay to demonstrate armored combat. The episode will officially air on TV in May.

VAF Alumni Sasha Ryjik Profiled on WTTG Fox 5 News

Local Fencer Sasha Ryjik Hopes to Make 2016 Olympic Team: MyFoxDC.com




Sasha Ryjik, represents the U.S. as part of the national team and hopes to make the 2016 Olympic team. He is the number one fencer in the 19 and under age group. Fox 5's Lindsay Murphy met with Ryjik to talk about the sport and get a few hands-on pointers.
